Here at Home Helpers, we’re always looking for new ways to innovate the home care industry and provide a better experience for all of our clients. Recently, Home Helpers® Home Care of Martinsburg made incredible strides by launching the Advanced Home Health Aide Apprenticeship program.
The program is available to those 16 and older and provides real-world, hands-on opportunities to individuals considering joining the home health care field.
The First of Its Kind in West Virginia
Working alongside the Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship and the State Department of Economic Development, the Advanced Home Health Aide Apprenticeship program takes roughly one year to complete. Throughout that year, individuals will receive 144 hours of class time and roughly 2,000 hours of hands-on experience. At the end of the program, all participants will have obtained invaluable paid work experience in the home care industry and an Advanced Home Health Aide certification that can be used in any state.
“We’ve been working on this for a little over a year. I think it was a year in October that I first reached out,” said Home Helpers Home Care of Martinsburg, WV President Lisa Fausey. “Over the course of this past year, we’ve built our standard out using our current training platform through Care Academy.”
“We are at a point in our country where we need more Caregivers,” Fausey said. “We need more hands-on folks working, and this program opens it up to even a young person, so they can come in. They’ll work alongside someone else until they’re 18, but it gives them the opportunity to see if this is the career path they may want to choose.”
